LIFE OF A GRADUATE STUDENTS IN PAKISTAN

Do you guys dream of what life is after graduation?

Dear readers, we all shared mixed emotions, thoughts, and excitement about graduation. I am an electrical engineer from one of the renowned universities in Pakistan. I’m a micro-unit in a troop of unemployed youth out there still figuring what to do with their life after graduation. Pardon me if my views do not resemble the bulk of youth, but this is going to reflect many souls out there.

Expectations before graduation:

When you are in your last semester of graduation, you are excited, energetic, and hopeful about your future, especially by scoring a good GPA and being an outstanding student. You have high hopes imagining you will Conquer the world. You devote all your time and energy hoping for a better future. But that bubble broke soon after post-graduation. It's not like every one of us is facing the same issues. I know people working in multinational companies.

Applying online on job portals:

The first thing you do after graduation is applying online on different job portals. But what's the most fun part? You search for fresh graduate jobs in the search bar. After reading the job descriptions, you get to know that the employer wants a fresh graduate with experience of three to four years. You try not to lose hope. You apply to thousands of job applications daily that pops up in front of you and get no response. Is it okay not to have a job after graduation? Well, it depends on how many days, months, and years you have wasted.

Parents conclusion about you:

At the start, everything will be regular, your parents will only give you a look of hope.No one will discuss this topic every day… the problem occurs when it's a year or two of your unemployment. Parents will start taunting you, telling you that you have successfully wasted their money. In my case, after two years of unemployment, my mother made me realize that we would have lived a luxurious life if they made me do a B.A. Which now I feel is true. Taking a lesson from this, I decided not to spend excessive money on my children. I did nothing, what will they do... Conquer the world, lol.

Society’s interest in your life:

Those who never asked you if you are feeling well or not will start taking interest in your life Surprisingly, every member of your maternal and paternal family seems fiercely focused on your life, asking about what are you doing, do you get a job, or not, and if not… Haw! What a shame!.Yeah, aunty, as if I don’t know…

Some serious brown-life problems:

Aside from unemployment, single life is also waiting to hit you brutally while your friends are uploading pictures of getting married...What adds more twist to it? When you are not slim. Your parents will start telling you to lose weight, otherwise, no one will marry you. Making me feel: Am I the only one who is suffering from every issue?

You find ways to ignore everyone:

By this time, you become so barefaced that nothing can hurt you anymore. You try finding solutions to overcome this depression and stress. What will help you in this instance? Tweets and memes. I must say, we Pakistani have so much talent in making memes. We should get an Oscar for that. But this has given me time to excel in the genuine skills that will help me in my non-existent career.

Even if you get a job, it is irrelevant to your field. You poke your nose in every other field just because of fewer job opportunities and pressure from society. Yes, that is correct — there was a time when I could be a receptionist with a degree in engineering. Well, most of us are still unemployed, even though we are willing to change our career paths. Concluding that life after graduation in Pakistan is as easy as finding peace after matric.
